Comedy Is Serious Business!
NEW YORK, NY--(MARKET WIRE)--May 21, 2008 -- Barely a year old, ComedyNet, which has quietly launched its ad supported free-on-demand programming to over 15 million cable homes, is in discussions with cable operators and satellite to home providers about the launching of ComedyNet as a fulltime HD channel.
"We have been very successful in fulfilling our primary goal of gaining carriage on the On Demand platform of cable systems, and we expect to be available to over 25 million cable homes by year end. We look to expand that distribution and explore all other modes of digital delivery including IPTV, Broadband, etc. Response to our mix of stand-up, sketch and animation has been wonderful," stated Jocelyn Bayle, VP of Affiliate Relations, who has been currently seeking distribution partners for all digital platforms at the NCTA convention in New Orleans, and further added, "ComedyNet has also recently signed an agreement to bring ComedyNet programming to a major cell phone service provider, and we will be looking for strategic partners to develop strong marketing tie-ins to maximize this opportunity.
Mark Graff, serial cable entrepreneur and founder of ComedyNet, has said, "On Demand programming affords us the opportunity to work closely with cable systems to create locally branded events and sponsorship/advertising opportunities... working with local ad sales forces and regional sponsorship campaigns helps us grow brand awareness from a grassroots basis. We can pick our shots effectively and both the operator and ComedyNet get the benefits. With growing brand recognition, we look forward to delivering a full time High Definition (HD), channel to cable in the near future. With nearly 300 hours of programming already in our library, which tends to skew to a different demographic profile than our competitor, we strongly believe that all Comedy is not Central."
Based in New York City, ComedyNet studios produces about 2-3 hours a week of new programming, and the company is very active in joint ventures for the development, production and distribution of new programming.
ComedyNet had announced on April 10th that the Company had entered into a Letter of Intent to merge with Anywhere MD, Inc. (Other OTC:ANWM.PK - News) for the purpose of accelerating its business plan.
